If you have computer issues, or it decides to update right before you are about to hop on the virtual meeting, give the employer a call or email them saying you may be a couple of minutes late to the meeting due to a technical issue. Showing up at 2:05 pm to a virtual interview will look bad on your work ethic. When your scheduled Zoom call is 2:00 pm, make sure you are ready to go at least 5 minutes before. The last thing you want is the employer being interrupted by an sound in your house. Zoom Interview Tip: Make sure you have headphones so the interviewer does not hear any background noise. To make sure you are all set for your interview, we advise candidates to practice joining a video conference 10-20 minutes before your virtual interview with an employer. However, if you join the Zoom call unmuted and have your video working, it does make an excellent first impression! With our world changing and technology updating daily, there is no need to stress if you are having issues. We understand that new video platforms can be tricky at first if you don’t have previous experience. We want to note that we do not see it as a negative when candidates can’t get their video or audio to work when they first join a Zoom call. When you prepare for a virtual interview beforehand, you show that you are qualified and organized. Having an interview run smoothly is the easiest way to impress your interviewer. One way to prevent making a major mistake is by going on a virtual interview with a recruiter or employer without having any issues with your camera or audio.
